Uber Passengers Can Save $130 with Amex American Express
American Express has been known to run promotions for their cardmembers. The earliest one was for Amex Small Business Saturday, typically the first Saturday after Thanksgiving. In the past, this promotion was $15 off of $30 when you shopped at a small business on that first Saturday after Thanksgiving. American Express have slowly expanded these types of promotions to include Twitter promotions. Amex have a set of these promotions every quarter. A typical deal would be $20 off $300 at BestBuy for example. In the past six months, American Express have been ramping up their Amex promotions to deal with the loss of Costco as a sole American Express vendor.
Uber Passenger Can Save $130 with Amex
The newest promotion on American Express is with Uber. Now through the end of the year (12/31/2016), Uber passengers can save up to $65/ride for two rides from one of 11 different airports in the US. Note that the Uber ride need to ORIGINATE at the airport and does not cover the ride to the airport. Uber passengers will also need to set their payment with an American Express card. It seems as if you also can use it twice per Uber account so if you have a spouse or traveling with friends, you can have up to 4 or more if you are traveling with more than one friend.

Wanted to let you know that today, American Express and Uber announced a new travel incentive for U.S. Card Members to relieve the stress of holiday travel. Through 12/31/16, Amex and Uber are offering 2 free rides home (up to $65/ride) from 11 different airports in the U.S.To redeem airport ride credits, Amex Card Members must begin their ride at one of the 11 airports listed below; riders simply need to enter AMEXAIRPORT in the promotions tab on the Uber iOS or Android app before requesting a ride, and ensure they have selected their American Express card as their chosen method of payment. The $65 will automatically be taken off the total cost of the ride once the trip has ended. Amex Card Members can redeem this offer for up two eligible rides during the promotion period.Saving up to $130 on rides from the airport is a huge savings, especially during some of the year’s two busiest travel holidays.Eligible rides must originate at one of the following airports:
- New York: EWR, LGA and JFK
- Chicago: ORD and MDW
- Washington D.C.: DCA, IAD
- Boston: BOS
- Houston: IAH
- Seattle: SEA
- Las Vegas: LAS

How Does This Affect Uber Drivers?
Prepare for it to be a bit more busy from the airport this holiday season. This is typically a slow 8 weeks until the middle of January. Even during the week of Thanksgiving, it typically isn’t that busy since people leave throughout the week before Thanksgiving, with many people either leaving the weekend before Thanksgiving or the Wednesday before. They typically all come back home on the weekend after Thanksgiving, but there doesn’t seem to be much surge pricing during the entire week.
