Uber Cuts Fares in 5 Cities in Dec 2015
Uber decreased fares in 5 cities in December. There were no price increases like a few months ago. These prices decreases are similar to those earlier this year when 48 cities that got their price cut in January 2015. They were all adjusted for different reasons. See below for the list and reason for price adjustment.
Here is the list of cities that had a price decrease in December:
- Nashville (further Seasonal price cut)
- Atlanta (seasonal price cut)
- New Orleans
- Las Vegas (new market adjustment)
- Reno (new market adjustment)
December:
Nashville
It was a 12% decrease, in addition to the 13% decrease from back in 2014, 25% lower than 2014. Nashville prices was not increased after the “winter promotion.”

Atlanta:
It was a 24% decrease from earlier in the month, but as you can see from the prices in Jan and Dec 2015, they did increase the price back after the fare cut during Q1 of 2015.

Unfortunately, this year’s winter price decrease was more than that of earlier this year where they lowered it to only $1.15 base charge and $0.95 per mile. Last year they only reduced it by 11%, but this time, they lowered it by 25%. Overall, it is 20% lower than that of last year after the rate change. The other bad news is that it may be until June when they raise prices back up. They raised prices in Atlanta from the “winter promotion” to “regular” price on June 5th.
New Orleans:
Price cut of 30%. This seems like a new market price adjustment, but UberX has been around in New Orleans since May so it may be both a new market adjustment and also a seasonal adjustment.

Las Vegas and Reno (both have same prices):
Price cut of 30%. This looks like a normal price reduction after a few months into a new Uber market. This is bad for drivers, but rates seem fairly reasonable at $1.10 a mile and 20 cents a minute. The opening price of $1.85 a mile and 30 cents a minute was very generous.
