Lyft Secretly Increases Safety Fee to $1.50

In the past day, some drivers have noticed an increased in the Trust and Safety Fee. They were the first to implement such a fee and this fee covers background checks and other checks to ensure both the car and driver are safe to any passenger.

Trust and safety are our top priorities and are at the core of everything we do. The Trust & Safety fee supports our industry-leading safety standards, including upfront and ongoing driving record checks, background checks, and insurance.

To compare the two practices of Lyft and Uber, I would say that Lyft’s requirements are higher than that of Uber’s concerning background checks and DMV driving record checks. Lyft does a better job finding past driving issues and barring bad drivers from the Lyft system. Also, the mentor ride does a very good job keeping out “bad” drivers from the system, such as those who are not as outgoing or have bad driving practices.

I would expect Uber to increase their fee as well just to chase profits. I don’t expect Uber to change any of their practices even if they increase the fee to $1.50 or even $2.00. I think Lyft deserves the $1.50 if Uber is charging $1.00 and still letting past criminals drive on the Uber system.
