Lyft Adds Prime Time Heat Maps to Driver App
Lyft drivers have been requesting Prime Time Heat maps for at least the last nine months and Lyft finally added it to the driver app.
Android drivers in Boston and Washington DC can now see Prime Time on the driver map, with shaded areas indicating local hot zones. Unfortunately with this upgrade, real-time icons of other Lyft drivers have disappeared. The Lyft team is working on bringing that back via other social features.
This is a great addition to the Lyft driver experience. Now we know where the demand is and can move around to fulfill the demand. Community mangers at Lyft have been saying how we cannot meet demand and this feature is a big step towards that. Before, we would blindly drive around getting passengers in where we think are the busy areas but now we have directly confirmation of where they are. Uber initially had this feature last year but retired it when they instituted surge pricing nationwide. Only recently did Uber bring it back heatmaps.
Lyft is also working hard to install this into as many cities as possible so Boston and Washington DC are not the only cities that will get this. You can read more about it here: http://community.lyft.com/2014/08/20/heat-maps-for-everyone/
